The weapons, outfits, and settings are all lifted directly from the Great War, and lengthy paragraphs provide historical context during loading screens which unfortunately tend to be long enough for the player to read them all the way through. Even a small amount of time with Tannenberg demonstrates vividly how devoted the developers are to accuracy and realism.

The game also offers full singleplayer support with AI-controlled bots, which is the only way to play it at the time of this writing. Tannenberg is the sequel to Verdun, which is billed as the first multiplayer FPS in a realistic WWI setting. Like its predecessor, Tannenberg focuses on realistic simulation of historic trench warfare in a multiplayer setting.
